Wanda_Sykes_to_Lead_ANNIE_as_Miss_Hannigan_for_Media_Theatre_20010101BroadwayWorld has just confirmed that comedian Wanda Sykes will be leading the Media Theatre’s production of ANNIE as ‘Miss Hannigan’ – the iconic child-hating orphanage director with an affinity for alcoholic beverages – this holiday season.  Sykes will open the production on November 23 and close the production on January 16, 2011 following a Christmas absence.  The theater today released an audition notice and are seeking all roles, including a cover for Sykes while the star fulfills her holiday commitments.  The production will be directed by Media Artistic Director Jesse Cline and musical directed by Tom Fosnocht.  Rehearsals begin November 8, 2011. Hot on the heels of Ricky Martin’s announcement on his personal blog that he’s gay, “True Blood” star Anna Paquin used an unusual medium of her own to announce that she is bisexual.


Alongside celebrities such as
Elton John, Clay Aiken, and Wanda Sykes, Paquin declared her sexual orientation in a public service announcement for Cyndi Lauper‘s Give a Damn Campaign, which promotes equality for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community. Two videos were shot in Los Angeles on January 30 and were released April 1 at 9 a.m. EST.

Out Magazine won’t be publishing its annual list of the “most interesting, influential and newsworthy LGBT people” of the year until Monday, but a leaked photo of its December/January cover has revealed that singer Adam Lambert and movie director Rob Marshall will be so honored. Meanwhile, the magazine’s website, which has been citing other Out 100 honorees, recently announced that playwright Tony Kushner also made the cut.
