Apple delays iPad worldwide release Even though the Apple iPad has received much praise for its design and user interface, there are many who aren’t so enamored with the device. That includes a couple American universities that are having problems with the iPad on their networks.The problem stems not from the iPad’s popularity but from the way it connects to wireless networks. Princeton University in New Jersey has blocked 20 percent of the iPads on campus because of “malfunctions that can affect the entire school’s computer system.” (more…)

The Sunday shopping prohibition is mandated by a state statute from which counties can opt out only via a referendum.Bergen County Democrats and Republicans were caught off-guard Tuesday, when Governor Christie proposed raising $65 million in sales tax revenue by repealing the county’s longstanding ban on Sunday business.

State Sen. Paul Sarlo, D-Wood-Ridge, chairman of the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee, said he would oppose the plan and predicted political fallout for Republicans running for elected office this year.

“It’s balancing the budget on the backs of the people of Bergen County,” Sarlo said. “It would strike at the heart of people’s quality of life and at residential property values.” (more…)

Top uniformed officer: Gay ban should be lifted

From the Associated Press:

WASHINGTON – The military’s top uniformed officer on Tuesday made an impassioned plea for allowing gays to serve openly in uniform, telling a Senate panel it was a matter of integrity and that it is wrong to force people to “lie about who they are in order to defend their fellow citizens.”

For two decades, the Food and Drug Administration has prohibited gay and bisexual men from giving blood as a precaution against AIDS. But three major blood collection agencies, including the American Red Cross, argue the practice is no longer warranted. The FDA disagrees. Joel Ginsberg, head of the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association, says the ban unfairly discriminates. (more…)
